The original Thakrar Family Tree for the ‘Anandji-bapa’s family’ (Kuldevi: Bhawanimata) was produced by my grandfather’s younger brother Bhagwanji Bhimji Thakrar on 17th July 1943 in Khambhodar (near Porbandar), Gujarat, India. Since then, at least two attempts have been made by various Thakrar brothers to update the Family Tree. The latest attempt was made in 2006 and a Thakrar Family Tree was commissioned and produced on 4th October 2006. However, that Family Tree is incomplete and many generations of Thakrars are missing. Also, in some cases, many branches of the Family Tree have not been extended since the Original 1943 version. Some Thakrar brothers have produced individual Family Trees by extending particular branches of the Thakrar Family Tree showing a few generations relating to their immediate family. However, to date, nobody has successfully produced a fully comprehensive, unified and complete Thakrar Family Tree.

The greatest difficulty in producing the comprehensive, unified and complete Thakrar Family Tree is the lack of contact details of all the Thakrars. During 1943 when the Original Thakrar Family Tree was produced, it was not that difficult. The Thakrar numbers were small and most of them lived locally in the village settings where everyone knew everyone else. However, now in 2010, Thakrars are spread all over the world and the task of tracking them is not easy, to say the least.

I undertook this project of updating the Thakrar Family Tree in June 2009. Since then, I have made numerous telephone calls all over the world tracking down every Thakrar I can find in order to update the Thakrar Family Tree. I have endeavoured to ensure the Thakrar Family Tree is accurate and complete. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to track down every single descended of Anandji-bapa.

In the production of the Thakrar Family Tree, I have concentrated on the Lineage of Anandji Bharnji Vithal Thakrar (Kuldevi – Bhawanimata).

During my research, I have come across names of many other Thakrars who are from the Vira Gordhan Pitambar lineage (Kuldevi – Balvimata). I have included these names in the Thakrar Family database in the hope that someone may further expand the family tree for these families.

For the first time in our history, the Thakrar Family Tree is being produced in English, as a database and put on this dedicated website (www.thakrarfamilytree.com). This makes it accessible to everyone from anywhere in the world. It is intended that the database will be updated regularly with the names of every new-born male within the Thakrar family.

It is to this end that I request each and every one of you to firstly check that the database is complete and that it does not miss out anyone you know and secondly, to inform me by email any new male additions to the Thakrar family.

Although traditionally, only the names of Thakrar sons are shown on the Thakrar Family Tree, it seems only right in this, day and age, that the names of Thakrar daughters are also shown. Whilst it is not feasible to include female names in the Thakrar Family Tree, they can be added to the database upon request.

It is intended that, subject to financial resources, the Thakrar Family Tree will be drawn up every 5 to 10 years and a copy sent to everyone who has registered an interest in receiving it by providing their postal or email address.

Upon my death or incapacity, my son Dr Amit Arvind Thakrar has kindly volunteered to continue the work of maintaining and updating the Thakrar Family database.
